The following comment, related by Dr. Craig Kent, head of REI’s Surgical Residency Program at Mittaphab Hospital in Vientiane, Laos, was made by Dr. Phouthone Muongpak, newly installed Director of the hospital. Dr. Kent had stopped by his office to congratulate him on being appointed to his new post, and to give him his best wishes for future success. Dr. Phouthone replied, “Tell (REI President and CEO) Roderick that we need REI. We need people teaching English. We need people in the medical departments.” A few days later Dr. Kent saw him again and remarked, "You don't look stressed." Dr. Phouthone replied, "It's because REI is with me."
